Heroes

Hero. A man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.

My girl Lou had an assignment last week.  Her task?  Make a poster of her hero including the reason why she chose the person she did.  I think if this was my assignment I would have a hard time narrowing it down to just one.  For her it was an easy choice, and imagine how my heart felt when she brought her poster home and slowly unrolled it to show me.  This is what life is all about.  This is what makes me happy to be a mom.  Of all the people she could have chosen, the first person to come to her mind was her little brother.  How awesome is that?  These two have been close since before my little man was born.  She was ecstatic to hear the news that she would be a big sister to a baby brother.  She campaigned for his name and she couldn't wait to see what he would look like.  They truly are kindred spirits.  I love that she sees him as her hero.  I hope that someday he will understand what an honor it is that she would choose him for her poster and that she would label him with such a prestigious title.  I hope that their relationship continues just like it is now for a very long time.  We all need heroes in our life, and whether we know it or not we are probably all someone else's hero.  Lou's reason for her brother being her hero wasn't huge to me, but it was to her.  Her reason didn't have anything to do with the real definition of the word.  It tells me that each of us can fulfill that role if we take just a little bit of time to show kindness. It's all she was looking for.  I'm so happy that she had this assignment.  It has taught me so much about the hero I hope to become, and about two of my favorite hooligans and their relationship with one another.
