How do you respond when someone asks you how you're doing? Do you really think about it before you reply, or is your standard answer fine. If it is then you and I aren't very different. I haven't ever stopped to count how many times in a day that I am asked how I'm doing, but I know it's a lot. I started thinking about it today, and I think that 90% of the time my response is always "I'm fine, how are you". Some people actually stop to question this further to ask if anything new is going on, or if anything exciting has happened lately and I always respond "no things are still the same". For some reason when I walk away I always feel a little disappointed that I don't have anything out of the ordinary to report. No exotic vacations, no new purchases, and nothing real exciting on the horizon. Today was a normal day just like any other. The same routine to get everyone where they need to be (I would be lost without it!), and everyone gathering together at the end. What I realized while spending a little time with my family this evening before we all went separate ways again for the Tuesday night routine of meetings for dad and bath time and homework for the kids along with dinner etc... was that the standard answer I have been giving everyone when asked how I'm doing of "I'm fine" is exactly correct. It is right on the button. I am fine. We are fine as a family and there is so much to be grateful for in that statement. Nothing new or exciting is happening and that is a great thing to be able to report especially in the troubled times we live in. Of course this means I haven't won the lottery either, but that's really okay too. We are healthy, we are together, and best of all we are happy. So from now on when I'm asked how I'm doing I will no longer feel bad about saying "I'm fine". I am fine and I am so grateful for that, and even more so for my children who are just fine as well. Fine is a place we are comfortable with, and a place I hope we can stay!
