A Special Day

It came.  The day he had been counting down for finally arrived.  His birthday came around just like I told him it would, and he met it with a full little body's worth of enthusiasm.  He received a special crown at school that he was able to wear all day long.  I told him this day would be special!  He enjoyed the publicity so much that it is still hanging on his bed.  Holding onto things that make you feel special is important, so he is holding onto it for a rainy day.  I followed through on this request for a 7-up cake, and although I don't have the best drizzling skills, it was still made especially for him.  We shared dinner with Grandma and Grandpa on this special day.  He chose Panda Express which just happens to be his very favorite right now.  His favorite gift this year was the Sunday clothes he received.  He was very cooperative when it was time to try them on and he couldn't wait for Sunday to come so he could show them off to the world.  I think those clothes work just like the crown.  They make him feel pretty special, and pretty handsome too I might add.  He also got a new swimming suit that he is so excited to use this summer.  He alternated clothing swaps between this and the Sunday clothes.  It was a tough decision choosing which one to wear, but in the end he chose the swimming suit.  He didn't want to mess the Sunday clothes up by getting birthday cake and ice cream all over them.  He's a smart kid that boy.  He waited for this special day to arrive, and in the end he was content to spend some special time with his family.  It was the perfect birthday, and the best part for me?  He promised to hold my hand for another whole year.  He also promised to still sit on my lap and give me kisses, and let's not forget being tucked into bed.  I'm holding onto every one of those 365 days.  Every one of them will be a treasure!
