Fly Tying 101

Ever wonder what JM is doing while I'm following my kids around taking pictures? Well most of the time he is right there with us, but in his spare time he loves to fish. I think this is something that he has always enjoyed doing, but over the past couple of years it is something that he has become very serious about. He had other hobbies in the past that took up most of his time like team roping, duck hunting, and pack trips, but as our family has grown and our life has become more busy those things have faded in his life. Fishing though is something that he can take the kids to do as well, and they are learning so much. When I say that JM loves fishing I mean he loves the entire process from start to finish. This means he starts out by tying his own flies. I enjoy watching him as he sits next to me at the table. Usually I'm working on pictures, and he is working on a masterpiece of his own. Seej has become really involved in learning this process and often times she sits next to him and participates in creating something beautiful. I think it is therapy for him much like my camera is for me, and he enjoys seeing the outcome and finding out if the fish like it as much as he does. It is definitely an art that takes precision and a good eye. Those that tie flies all the time say he has a lot of talent. They say he has a keen eye. I say this is one more thing that brings us together. I say this is one more thing that my children love watching him do, and I say this is one more thing that we can all enjoy. Just look at what his results can catch. And besides, I already knew that other stuff about him!

Pretty dang cool! I loved going fishing with my dad when I was little, I had my own pole and everything. But I think I was more into exploring and he took care of my pole!:)
